Sony Interactive Entertainment will livestream a “technical presentation” on Tuesday, featuring PlayStation 5 lead architect Mark Cerny, that will focus on the “PS5 and innovations in gaming technology.” The presentation is likely where Sony will officially reveal the PlayStation 5 Pro, the long-rumored upgraded version the current PS5 expected to launch later this year.
Tuesday’s livestream will run for nine minutes, Sony said, and will be broadcast on the official PlayStation YouTube channel on Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. EDT/8 a.m. PDT/4 p.m. BST. In a brief teaser video announcing the stream, Sony indicated that the presentation will focus on the PS5, offering the hint that “the journey continues” for the company’s current-gen console.
Sony’s plans to release a deluxe version of its PS5 have been reported for the past six months, thanks to insights from analysts and leaks from developer documentation. The PS5 Pro’s reported technical specifications point to an upgraded console that will deliver superb image quality in 4K resolution, with better ray-tracing features. The console will offer smoother, more consistent performance, especially when plugged into a variable refresh rate display, based on those specs.

The PS5 Pro would seem to follow Sony’s playbook from 2016, when it launched the PlayStation 4 Pro — an upgraded version of the PlayStation 4 with a new chassis and a boost in performance that targeted 4K output. One important unknown remains about the PS5 Pro ahead of its reveal: How much it will cost. Sony’s current PS5 launched in 2020 at two price points: a standard edition with a Blu-ray disc drive for $499.99 and a PS5 Digital Edition for $399.99. Sony has since raised the price of the Digital Edition to $449.99.
